Acupressure is the same as acupuncture, except you don't use the needles. All you need is a couple of thumbs. Acupressure is another way that you can pursue a self-help program using Alternative Medicine. Naturally, it's imperative to do our own research (especially those who are pregnant) in order to tailor a program like this to our needs and to the needs of our family. But let me whet your appetite, just a bit. The Benefits I think one of the best things about Acupressure is that you don't have to wallow in your condition while waiting for a doctor's appointment. When you get a feeling, when you KNOW you're getting a sore throat, you can target the pressure point and fight the illness off immediately. (One such point is called 'Wind Mansion' located at the base of the back of the head, in the hollow between the two large muscles.) You can target the pressure points in the privacy of your own home and whenever you feel like it. You can give yourself a treatment more than once a day using the health-maintenance mentality. Because treatments are completely natural, there are no side effects or allergic reactions from drugs. Since your treatments would include deep breathing exercises and relaxing techniques, you can only improve your condition by increasing circulation, relieving stress, and strengthening your body's resistance to disease. And, except for the price of your research (i.e. the books you might want to buy and the time you spend), the price tag is $0. The Conditions Acupressure Will Address Acupressure will address all illnesses by promoting wellness. You will strengthen your immune system so that you are better able to resist ailments. But you can still help yourself out of the conditions from which you suffer. In my article, My Lust for Alternative Medicine--Part 2, I give you 2 examples of how Acupressure worked on my husband and daughter. Now, here is one way how it works on me. At times, I have trouble falling asleep. I'm tired, but a certain something within my body creates a type of quiver that is very disturbing. I can't explain it any other way. Maybe you know what I mean. Well, while I'm laying there, I'll target 3 points in particular, using a slow pressure and slow release technique. I purposefully breathe long and slow. Within minutes, I feel a 'letting go', an inner relaxation that manifests itself physically so that I fall asleep immediately. To me, this is impressive and an incentive to keep using Acupressure. But there are many, many other conditions that can be treated with Acupressure. Itching, complexion problems, allergies, eye problems, chronic fatigue syndrome, stress, depression, hot flashes, headaches, fainting, pain arthritis... the list goes on. And your research can concentrate on the problems in your family. I can recommend Acupressure. It's a part of our health regiment that has helped us stay out of the doctor's office. |
