Promote a TRADING SESSION when the kids are especially bored and are counting on you to entertain them, or when you want to barter for some time to yourself. Either way, it's a lot of fun. And who says that entertaining the kids shouldn't be fun! Huh?
Get a call out to the kids to gather some of their property to the kitchen or dining room. This is stuff that they would like to 'get rid of' in exchange for something else.
Set aside a small space for each kid so that he can place his items in that area alone. Give them about 15 minutes collect these things and 15 minutes to set up.
NOW, if you want to be included in on this walk on the wild side, collect some your goodies that you know the kids are crazy about. If not, just show them how it's done and step back.
The next 10 minutes are spent going from display to display looking at each other's goodies. Have the kids take notes on the things they want to trade for and who has them.
Then, sick the kids on themselves and watch the fun. Of course, if you are in amongst the Wall-Street-type trading, you can trade for favors. For example: If you want an hour of total peace, trade those pair of earrings/Craftsman tool that the kids have been drooling over.

"If you make supper tonight, I'll take you to the Mall, Saturday at 9a.m." At which time you can sit at a table or bench while they are visiting their favorite sites and you get to read that book or write that poem you've been meaning to get to since the last millennium.
The benefits go beyond the time that you get to yourself.
