Sometimes a movie comes along that, inspite of its obvious flaws, can still be enjoyed by the spectator who has no ulterior motives.

For Richer or Poorer takes us from the high of High Society, where the Sextons (Brad and Caroline, played by Allen and Alley, respectively) wallow in wealth, to the humble land of the Amish, where the Sextons wallow in work. On the brink of divorse, and owing millions in back taxes because of their unscrupulous bookkeeper, they flee the city at top speed.

With Brad's knack for taking chances, he lands them in Pennsylvania disguised as Amish cousins. While the IRS break policy to find them, the Sextons farm. Without the distractions of pomp and circumstance of ruled Society, the husband and wife chip away the layers of pride that lacquered them for 10 years, and recognize the prize they have in each other. In the process, we as onlookers have some fun, even as the worldly couple leave their mark on Amish Society.

The reviews I read on this movie had to be written by average critics who have their axes to grind. The personal statements they made when they slammed Tim Allen were uncalled for and were probably made to get laughs and/or attention. First of all, remember Allen started out as a comedian and won his way into the homes of the public during his series: Home Improvement. Second, there's no need to take so seriously a movie that is so much fun. And third, not once does he do the arr-arr-arr thing.

I admit, that I wondered why Allen and Alley were chosen as a couple. The reason comes when you watch Alley bounce off Allen's quirky style. It's quite obvious she can adapt to anyone playing opposite her. I'll also admit that I couldn't watch this with my children without censoring certain parts. But it's my movie of choice at night when I rub my husband's feet.
