So you've decided to home school! Congradulations! It is a monumental step paramount to the decision to marry. Sound silly? Let's check it out.
1. Deciding on your children's education is something that you will have to live with, and make accounting to, for a long time. This decision affects lives.
2. There's a LOT of work involved in taking your child out of the marred, public school system. Still, you will actually see the fruits of your labor.
3. There will be days when frustration, impatience, fatigue, and overwork stare back at you in the mirror with steely eyes of dread. But discipline and a sense of humor will get you through the crises. Before you know it, you'll realize that it wasn't as bad as you thought.
4. There will be times when you won't know how to solve a particular problem. Remember that you're embarking on a new experience. No one expects you to be an expert, (not even the kids). You learn as you go, try new things, and change what doesn't work.
5. People are going to offer you so much advice, that if you stack it all up, it'll reach---. Well, you get the picture. Just take what you need, and trash the rest. Make no qualms about this. YOU are the one who knows and loves your child best. Trust YOUR instincts. YOU set the standard, not some opinionated, speech-giver who's never had any children and just views your child as a statisitic.
6. And like a marriage, the decision to homeschool is not irreversible. You do have the last option to reenter your child into the public school system. Though you decide that it's for the best, it will not be a cause for celebration.
So, much like a marriage, you can be proud of your decision. Go forward, and enjoy the discovery!!
