Rated PG-13--for innuendo, one F-- word.
Jane and Jefferson Blue have earned a reputation for themselves in worldwide espionage. But they gave up the spy trade to raise a family. Their first bout with normal life, takes them to the French Quarter of New Orleans.
While taking his 11-month-old baby for a stroller ride, Jeff Blue is met by Muerte, a small-time hood, who's a legend in his own mind. Blue not only thwarts Muerte's attempt at a mugging, but leaves Muerte dizzy in a dumpster. When he regains consciousness, Muerte swears revenge.
When the police get wind of people getting knifed in the French Quarter, they feel justified to interrupt Blue's vacation and 'protect' him. Blue, however, denies being mugged, which dials the cops' curiosity mode to the max.
If that wasn't enough, The Blues' former employer wants them back on spy duty. They accept the assignment, inspite of having to carry baby Jane-Louise with them, Muerte's popping up to seek revenge, the cops stalking them to find out who they are, and their assignment (a nymphette villianess bent on corrupting high-ranking officials) trying to kill them. But they manage to get some in sight-seeing. (Okay, take a breath.)
BLUES is delivered on a spy platter with romance, comedy and adventure. It's served to us by a directer, who takes advantage of the exotic backdrop of the Delta, and is garnished with 2 veteran actors, who are pleasing to the movie-goer's palette.
Quaid brings a quirky, devil-may-care essence to his role, while Turner brings an appealing vulnerability to hers, even though her character can 'kill in ways even her husband doesn't understand'.
Tucci is hilarous as the bungling tough-guy, Muerte.
The mission and this movie is a success. Try it on for size, it'll fit one night this weekend.
